Kitchen Cleaning Tips from C’s

 How to: Kitchen Cleaning

Following these steps your kitchen cleaning routine will have your kitchen sparkling in no time!

Our #1 Rule:  Always clean from top to bottom.

1. Top of Kitchen Cabinets

Take everything down to be hand washed. Use a warm soapy water mixture on a microfiber to wipe down the top of your cabinet. When the cabinets are dry, you should line the top with either paper towels or wax paper to capture the grease and dust. This makes kitchen cleaning quick and painless next time. The lining should be changed every couple months.

2. The Rest of Your Kitchen Cabinets

Use the same mild soapy mixture to clean the fronts, sides, and insides of your cabinets. Make sure to remove all contents and clean thoroughly. For kitchen cleaning use a blue microfiber.

*Organization*

Match all pots and pans with their lids. When stacking pots or pans use a paper towel to separate them; this will avoid scratching your pots and pans.  If you have any that don’t match place them in a separate pile. While everything is out of your cabinets, put down liners. Cedar wood liners will help repel pantry pests. Take the time to alphabetize your spices as you put them back. Tupperware is the biggest culprit of kitchen disorganization. Match the lids with the containers; put any strays aside for recycling.

3. Refrigerator

Go through all food and condiments throwing out expired items. Once again, clean from top to bottom. A warm mild soap and water mixture will work here as well. Clean all shelves, drawers, and ledges.  Refresh your baking soda for odor control. Be sure to check the seal on your refrigerator, mold can hide here. Go through your freezer as well, disposing of any food that may have been kept past its time. Creating a fresh batch of ice is a great way to help freezer odors as the ice will absorb food odors around it.  A clean fridge is essential in kitchen cleaning.

4. Appliances
  • Oven:  Self – Cleaning? Set it to clean for 3 hours. Wipe the oven clean after with an old rag that you can throw out after. Soak all knobs in water and white vinegar to get the grease off.
  • Dishwasher:  Clean out the drain and seals with, you guessed it!  A warm mild soap and water mixture!! Place a cup of white vinegar on the top rack and run the dishwasher through a normal cycle. This may need to be done twice if you haven’t cleaned your dishwasher in a while.
  • Coffee Machine: Pour two cups of white vinegar in the water tank and run the coffee maker, depending on the color of the water this step might need to be repeated. After your coffee machine has been cleaned to your satisfaction you need to run water through your coffee maker at least 4 times to properly rinse the vinegar out.
  • Microwave: Place a dish of water and lemon and microwave for a couple minutes. The moisture will lift up dirt. If your microwave is really dirty it can help to cut a lemon in half and rub the juice onto stains before microwaving. After you have cleaned your microwave, place a bowl with a cut lemon in it and microwave for 30 seconds to neutralize any odors. This last step should be part of your regular kitchen cleaning routine.
5. Counters

To ensure that your kitchen is thoroughly cleaned you need to move everything that is on your counter to clean behind and under. This step can be very easy by minimizing what you leave on your counter for daily use. Keeping your counters clean is essential to keeping pests such as ants out of your home.  Wiping down your counters should be part of your daily kitchen cleaning routine; it only takes a few minutes. For special care of stone; see manufacturer’s information.
