Breast Cancer Survivor: Knowing Nicole
We smile because she does!
You hear her pleasant voice over the phone, or perhaps you received an email about your cleaning appointment. She is the glue that binds our office and cleaning crews together. Her name is Nicole and we all adore her upbeat, pleasant, hard-working attitude. This is especially true during October because we are celebrating Nicole and others who have survived Breast Cancer.
It was May of 2015 during a routine check-up when a lump was discovered. After extensive testing, Nicole was diagnosed with Stage 2 Breast Cancer. It was quite a shock because she was only 34 years old. Nicole has always been someone of good spirits and determination so she was ready for a good, victorious fight. With the support of her loved ones, she took Breast Cancer by the horns for the battle of her life.
Chemo, radiation and eventually a Double Mastectomy helped Nicole win her battle. Every 3 months she visits with her Oncologists and has yearly appointments with a Surgical Oncologist. This ensures she is clear of cancer. What currently weighs on her mind, is her age and how she can help other young women and men know to be mindful and receive regular checkups.
Nicole has said, “Young women have to pay attention, early detection is vital in the fight against Breast Cancer.” No matter where you are, you should get checked at least once a year. If you live in NY, there are several places where you can get free Breast Cancer screening so there is no excuse not to be on top of your health.
Let’s spread awareness together.
