Sag Harbor, Reasons We Love To Work And Live Here

History

Sag Harbor is a quaint Village of 2 square miles in the South Fork of Long Island, New York. It sits within both Southampton and East Hampton and is rich in history. It was once a whaling and shipping harbor and the port is still scenic and vast.

Its landmarks include structures associated with whaling and its early days when it was designated as the first port of entry to the new United States. It had the first United States custom-house erected on Long Island.

Things to do

Sag Harbor is one of the kid-friendliest towns in the area. It boasts plenty of shops, parks, and activities for little ones. Visitors and residents alike can enjoy museums, theaters, parks, restaurants, beaches, galleries, boat charters, and nature preserves.

You can take a stroll down Main Street, visit the small town-style shops, bask in the artsy aspects of the village, and sit down to lunch at one of their many independent restaurants. There are often different festivals, fairs, and events going on in town too, keeping Sag Harbor extra lively and fun. Sag Harbor truly is one of Long Island’s hidden gems and has a friendly, approachable feel to it

Business

The entire business district is listed as the historic Sag Harbor Village District on the National Register of Historic Places. In the 20th century, it became a destination for wealthy people who summered here. The village has a lot of pride in its history and works very hard to preserve, commemorate, and share its past.

The Sag Harbor Chamber of Commerce located on Wharf street holds many events which include both businesses and the community. Visitors can find many things to do and enjoy stays at bed and breakfasts, hotels or motels, and house rentals for the summer. There are many shops on and off the main street. From apparel, arts, and antiques to children’s toys and gifts, there’s something for everyone. It’s a great day trip from NYC or as a weekend getaway.

In the mood for food? Sag Harbor has cafes, bakeries, fine restaurants, coffee shops, specialty shops, and markets. Grab a quick bite, or sit down for a leisurely meal and then stop somewhere else for dessert and do some window shopping.

There are 21 historic places to visit too. You can see an old jailhouse or civil war monuments, plus don’t forget to stroll the Long Wharf!

The businesses support one another as do the locals. And that’s why we love to work and live here in Sag Harbor NY. It’s a great village tucked away in the bustling Hamptons!
