Does your bedroom need a deep cleaning?

A Deep Cleaning is Just what your Bedroom Ordered

On average people spend 7-8 hours in their bedroom; whether it is sleeping, watching a movie, or reading a book.  Is your bedroom clean? If your bedroom is not cleaned properly you could be inhaling allergens that can affect your life. To improve your indoor air quality your bedroom needs a deep cleaning at least twice a year on top of regular maintenance.  Going to sleep in a freshly cleaned room is one of the best ways to end a day.

Deep Cleaning Bedroom

Always Start From Top to Bottom When Cleaning

  • First thing to do when cleaning is to dust all the high surfaces. This includes door and window frames, bed frames, corners, vents, and ceiling fans. There is nothing worse than having dust fall on a freshly cleaned surface. A swiffer is an excellent tool for this. If you haven’t high dusted in a while you may need a damp microfiber to get the high areas dust free.
  • Next, in your deep cleaning of your bedroom is remove all your linens; including your bed skirt, mattress pad and duvet cover.  Since you are washing everything it is okay that the dust fell down. The linens protected your mattress. If you have any curtains they should be washed or sent to the dry cleaners if needed. If you have a wooden bed frame applying lemon oil will nourish the wood and will also deter spiders and other pests. Sprinkle some baking soda on your mattress ( sprinkle it on your carpet at this time as well), this will deodorize and give your mattress a fresh scent. Let the baking soda sit for at least 15 minutes before vacuuming off.

ADDED BONUS:

Use a steam cleaner to completely sanitize your mattress. A vapor cleaning system will kill any bacteria or dust mites that might be in your mattress. For more information on the benefits of vapor cleaning systems.

  • Third, dust all your furniture. Dust under everything; clean all sides of your furniture. Again if you have wood furniture now would be a good time to use lemon oil to nourish them. This is an essential part of giving your bedroom a deep cleaning. If you have the time, go through your drawers and purge. Adding soap bars or dryer sheets (used ones work too!) into drawers to keep your clothing fresh.
  • Now, get a damp microfiber and clean all your trim. The trim along your floor collects more dust than you would think especially if you have pets.  To remove any scuff marks a magic eraser will do the trick but be careful if your trim is painted any other color than white. After you have cleaned your trim wipe dryer sheets along the trim to deter dust and pet hair from landing on the trim again.
  • Vacuuming & Moppingis the last step. Once you have gotten all the dust off your furniture vacuum your floor. I prefer to start in the farthest corner of the bedroom and work my way to the door. (Don’t forget to vacuum the baking soda off your mattress!) If you do it this way then dust and dirt will not be tracked out of the room. It also has benefits if your carpet shows any marks. Vacuum in even strokes doing a few feet at a time. Vacuum under any furniture, to collect any residual dust or webs. Mop your floors with a damp microfiber mop; if you have wood floors ALWAYS GO WITH THE GRAIN OF THE WOOD.

 ADDED BONUS:

Vapor cleaning: you can steam clean any floor type with the proper system.  Carpets may need a machine to get all of the particles out but a vapor cleaning system will disinfect any bacteria or dust mites that might be present. Wood floors can be sanitized with a simple steam mop.

  • Finishing touches:

After washing all your linens make your bed. To make your bed into a soft heaven use hospital corners and tuck down the sheets. To learn how to make a bed like a house cleaning service…
