3 Steps To Organize Your Linen Closet

1. Remove

Remove all the items from your linen closet; this includes towels, sheets, blankets, and bath mats. Sort them into piles of keepers, maybes, and get rid of. Sheets last about an average of 3-5 years depending on how often you use them. I personally have 4 sets of sheets for my bed that I rotate through (I like to change it up). Towels can last anywhere from 2- 5 years. When you start replacing them you can donate the towels to your animal shelter for their use. Once your linen closet is empty, wipe down all the shelves (on top and underneath). I recommend adding some baking soda to the linen closet or place used dryer sheets in the corners to keep your linens fresh.

2. Purge

Fold your pile of keepers; folding your fitted sheets properly will help you save space. Place the top sheet, fitted sheet, and extra pillowcases inside one pillow case. This will make it easier to pick out a set of sheets. Go through your pile of maybes, if you aren’t strongly attached to them it may be time to donate them. Many animal shelters will be thrilled to have your donated towels and sheets. You can also use them for rags around the house for those dirty jobs. Remember the key to organization is to remove what you don’t need. The more room you have the more organized you will feel.

3. Sort

When placing your keepers back in your linen closet you should fold every item neatly. Many people have summer and winter sheets; it would make sense to only have the sheets front and center that you are using at the time. You can easily swap the sheets around when the seasons change.  Make separate neatly folded piles for body towels, hand towels, and wash cloths. You can even get creative with “his” and “her” towels.  You extra bath mats should be folded and placed at the bottom of your linen closet.

Don’t forget to go through your beach and summer towels as well! Having an organized linen closet will make your life a lot easier!
