How to get your closet organized

Get your Closet Organized Now!

Being a woman, at some point in our life our closet has looked like a tornado has gone through it. If this is what you wake up to every morning, it can make getting ready for work a hassle. Following these steps will have your closet organized, then it is up to you to keep it that way!

The FIRST thing you do is take literally every single piece of clothing down and throw it in a pile in your bedroom. This can be overwhelming but it opens up your closet completely. To get an organized closet you need to start from scratch. Once everything is out of your closet you can visualize how you want it to look. Pick a spot for each type of clothing (t-shirts, tank tops, long sleeve shirts, dress shirts, coats, skirts, coats, shorts, pants, belts, sweatshirts, etc). Keeping things together makes picking out outfits that much easier.

If you have a touch of OCD like I do, you can even take it a step further and have your clothes separated by color.

Fir things first you needs to tackle your mountain of clothing, take each piece of clothing and ask yourself three questions:

1. When was the last time I wore this item? (If it’s been over a few months move on to question two; if the answer is never: it is time to part ways!)

2. Will you wear it in the near future?

3. Does it even fit you? Try clothing on if you need to.

If you haven’t worn it, won’t wear it, or it doesn’t fit then it doesn’t belong in your closet. After all closet space is prime real estate.  Start a donation bag and a garbage bag.

As you go through your clothing you can either fold each piece and put them in piles according to group or even put them on hangers to save yourself a step. Be sure to keep al categories separate so that putting your closet back together is easier.

A useful tip to keep your closet under control is to put your clothing back up with the hangers facing the opposite way and as you wear an item put the hanger back right. After a year or so either donate or throw out the clothing that you have not worn.

Remember: The key to staying organized is keeping up with it. One day of clothing is not much to clean up but it can get out of hand very easily. Daily maintenance is easier than doing a hug overhaul!

Enjoy your organized closet 🙂
